For me, Iulia‘s experience has a unique meaning because it represents in the classic and definitive sense, the rural culture of Romania vis-à-vis the involvement of an independent, intelligent, strong woman, dreamer and eager to change a misogynist village, with a corrupt public administration and no openness to civilization. Iulia Lung is in a way one of the heroines of this country, who has gifted everything she had most valuable in her fight for the well-being of a small village forgotten by the world. Unfortunately the community she wanted to save overwhelmed by poverty, fear, and opportunism betrayed her efforts and hope. Iulia‘s book is the story of any Romanian woman civically and politically involved, whose community value and impact are still ignored by all political parties of Romania!
